‘Nothing about us without us’: the emerging disability movement and advocacy in China

The disability movement and disabled persons’ self-help organizations (DPOs) are emerging in China, some of which succeeded in promoting policy and social changes with special strategies. Based on an original survey and interview, this article explains the development and survival strategies of China’s DPOs, and especially interprets some successful cases of social advocacy and policy advocacy in the emerging disability movement. It is hoped that scholars will pay more attention to the advocacy and public engagement of the disability community in non-western settings in the future.     

朱元璋后期诗作对明朝诗坛的影响

朱元璋的诗歌创作可以登基为界,分为前期和后期两个阶段。前期诗作,粗豪霸气,威风凛凛,直有干云之势;后期诗作,雍容雅致,功利实用,几无风格可言。在朱元璋看来,大明诗歌应该成为与大明开国气象相契合的粉饰太平的工具。为达到这一目的,朱元璋身体力行、垂范作则,大量雍雅、实用之作在朱元璋的后期诗作中接踵涌现。这些诗作,不仅直接左右和控制了明初及明朝前期诗坛,也影响乃至笼罩了整个明朝诗坛。

戴维森意义理论具有明显的思想继承性,主要表现在:弗雷格的真值条件论是其基本立足点,塔尔斯基真之语义论的约定-T模式充当其形式表征基础,蒯因的彻底翻译理论成为其经验解释的理论基础。正是由于戴维森善于借鉴这些影响深远的思想成果,使其意义理论呈现出一种解释性的真理论而潜在地具有非凡的理论优势和影响力。     

‘Queen of the world’: experiences of ‘at-risk’ young people participating in equine-assisted learning/therapy

There is a significant body of research into the benefits of animal-assisted therapy (AAT) but less into the fields known as equine-assisted learning and therapy (EAL/EAT) where horses are incorporated in therapeutic and learning interventions. This paper explores the experiences of seven ‘at-risk’ young people who participated in a therapeutic horsemanship (TH) programme. The study followed a practice-near approach seeking to capture the young people's experiences within a participative ethnography. Themes related to the risk and resilience literature such as self-confidence, self-esteem, self-efficacy and a sense of mastery, empathy and the opening of positive opportunities are explored in this paper.     

Women’s Movements in Portugal and Spain: Democratic Processes and Policy Outcomes

Portugal and Spain underwent dramatic transformations between 1974 and the early 1980s, transitioning from dictatorships to democracies. In this article I explore why Portugal was faster than Spain in adopting key gender-rights policies (e.g., divorce, equal pay, state feminism) during the period in question. Bridging insights from the democratization, social movement, and women’s studies literatures, I argue that Portugal’s accelerated policy path on women’s rights can be explained by three complex factors: (1) the nature of the revolutionary transition, which structured options for women’s movements and for institutional actors; (2) the configuration of movement-party alliances; and (3) supranational pressures to reorganize the state-civil society relationship. The study contributes to the engendering of democratization processes in Iberia by paying close attention to the interconnected agency of women’s movements with other political actors at a time of regime transformation.     

《离骚》本草说故里——关于屈原出生地的另类臆断

屈原故里是研究屈原的诸多学术争执中一个常见的话题。关于屈原的故里，最早记载屈原生平事件的《史记·屈原贾生列传》没有文字的记载，后人普遍认为秭归是屈原的故里，及后又有江陵说、奉节说、临湘说、汉寿说等诸多说法。如果从屈原代表作《离骚》中所描写的本草来考察其故里，则会发现，在人们对屈原故里的诸多判断中，秭归说应该是最为合理和科学的。     

Perception of Climate Risk among Rural Farmers in Vietnam: Consistency within Households and with the Empirical Record

Rural farmers in Vietnamese communes perceive climate risk and potential impacts on livelihood within a complex context that may influence individual and household decisions. In a primary survey of 1,145 residents of the Thach Ha district of Ha Tinh province, we gathered data regarding perception about stability in climate, potential risks to livelihood, demographic characteristics, orientation toward risk, and interest in expanding economic activity. Temporal analysis of meteorological and economic indicator data forms an empirical basis for comparison with human perception. We ask the basic question: Are rural farmers’ perceptions of climate consistent with the historical record and reproducible within households? We find that respondents do perceive climate anomalies, with some anchoring on recent extreme events as revealed by climate observational data, and further that spouses disproportionately share perceptions relative to randomly simulated pairings. To put climate‐related risk perception in a larger context, we examine patterns across a range of risks to livelihood faced by farmers (livestock disease, pests, markets, health), using dimension reduction techniques. We find that our respondents distinguish among potential causes of low economic productivity, with substantial emphasis on climate‐related impacts. They do not express uniform concern across risks, but rather average patterns reveal common modes and distinguish climate concern. Still, among those expressing concern about climate‐related risks to livelihood we do not find an association with expressed intention to pursue changes in economic activity as a risk management response.
